How to choose ceramic tableware
1. Touch the bottom: general ceramic tableware is fired on the kiln plate. So the foot handle part (ceramic bottom) is generally not glazed. Because there is no glaze, you can directly and clearly see the material of the ceramic blank. So when you get a plate, turn it over and look at the color of the bottom. A good porcelain foot handle should be white and delicate, smooth with the hand.
2. Shine the light: use the light of a flashlight to look through the plate. See if the transparent part is uniform and free of impurities. If you can see through the light there are obvious black spots and impurities, then do not buy. Good ceramics have a very even translucent part. The same thin and thick plates have different light transmission properties. Bone china will be more translucent than hard china because bone china has a relatively loose internal structure and hard china is more dense. From this point alone, we can not judge good or bad.
3. Scratch with a knife: the purpose of ceramic tableware with a knife is to see the hardness of the glaze. In general, the hardness of ceramic glaze should reach Mohs hardness 5. General hard objects will not leave traces on the ceramic surface. The second purpose of the knife is to see the surface pattern. Normal ceramic surface decorative patterns are high temperature firing. Generally in use will not fall off. If you scratch with a hard object to fall off, it means that the process is not qualified.
